Homeopathic Remedies for Scalds and Burns

Homeopathy for Scalds and Burns

Burns and scalds can happen to anyone at any time. It is important to know the difference between the two and how to treat them accordingly. Burns are caused by dry heat, such as from fire, while scalds are caused by wet heat, like hot liquids or steam.

There are three different degrees of burns, and although it may seem slightly back to front, first degree burns are the least severe. First degree burns only affect the outer, or first, layer of skin and usually heal within a week or so, usually without scarring.

Second degree burns go deeper and affect the second layer of skin (hence the second degree burn) and usually heal within two to three weeks with some scarring.

Third degree burns affect all 3 layers of skin (The epidermis, dermis and subcutis) and often requires help to heal properly.

Burns can be very painful with bright red skin, blisters and swelling however, the pain you are in does not necessarily relate to the seriousness of the burn. Again it can seem a little bit back to front but very serious burns can be largely pain free to begin with, as the nerves have been damaged, and in this instance the pain will start as the nerve endings begin to heal.

Most minor burns can be treated at home, get away from the heat source and get the burned area under cool running water for at least 20 minutes. Keep the burn clean and do not burst any blisters.

For serious burns, get some medical attention.

Whatever the level of burn you have, homeopathy has some great remedies to help and support your healing process.
