The Art of Managing Patient Relationships
Building a successful homeopathy practice isn’t just about remedies—it’s about
Impetigo is a highly contagious skin infection that is caused by bacteria. It is characterised by the presence of blisters or sores on the skin. Impetigo can affect people of all ages, but it is most commonly seen in young children.
If you suspect that you or someone else has Impetigo, there are a few things to look for. The most obvious sign is the presence of blisters or sores on the skin. These sores may be yellow, honey-coloured, or brown, and they will usually be surrounded by a red area. Impetigo can also cause the skin to become swollen and painful.
You can get Impetigo anywhere on the body, but is most common around the nose, mouth, hands, and forearms. It can be common around the nappy area for young children too.
There are three types of impetigo, non-bullous or crusted impetigo which is the most common, bullous which forms large blisters and ecthyma which forms painful ulcers.
As we have already said, impetigo is very contagious and you are contagious until the scabs crust over and dry out. Therefore to help stop it spreading to other parts of your body or others make sure you:
Stay home from work or keep the kids off school.
Do not scratch or pick the infected areas. Not only does this help with the spreading but also helps to reduce the scarring.
Wash your hands often.
Keep infected areas clean and dry and cover them with loose clothing or gauze bandages.
Don’t share flannels or towels with the rest of the family and wash at a high temperature after use.
If your children have impetigo make sure you wipe down their toys after they have played with them to avoid reinfection.
Then it is straight into your homeopathy kit.
