Natural Approaches to Men’s Health: A Homeopathic Perspective
Men’s health issues, particularly those affecting the reproductive system, shouldn’t
Hot flushes are a common symptom of menopause, from flushing red from the neck up, resembling a swanvester match or sweating so much you look like you have taken part in the ice bucket challenge, they can be unpleasant and bothersome.

Many women find that their hot flushes are worse during the day and can interfere with sleep at night. There are some things you can do to help lessen their frequency and severity and together with homeopathic remedies it need not be the nightmare many women dread.
Try wearing cool, loose-fitting clothing and keeping a fan handy to help cool you down when a hot flash starts. Avoiding triggers such as spicy food, caffeine, and alcohol can also help. Some women find that relaxation techniques like yoga or meditation can help lessen the frequency too.
Homeopathic remedies can be a great help for hot flushes, they are safe, gentle, effective, and can be used alongside other treatments.
First comes the hot flush with a surge of blood to the head, a scarlet face and a feeling of heat and throbbing pulsations all over the body. Then comes a drenching sweat with cold and clammy skin. There will be a sense of anxiety like something bad might happen and you must have fresh air, be it opening a window or running outside to the garden to breathe deeply. You may get left sided headaches with a throbbing sensation or a violent beating of the heart. You will feel better from cold water, open air and exercise.
The key to this remedy is the suddenness with which everything happens. You are absolutely fine then in an instant you are hot all over with a bright red face and dilated pupils. Your head is hot and dry, almost like the stones you get in a sauna, and the heat comes with a throbbing/burning sensation. Despite the dry head, covered body parts may sweat. The hot flush will go as quickly as it comes and everything is worse in the afternoon or for being somewhere warm. You might also desire lemons.
If you are feeling depressed, negative and like nothing in your life is as you want it, then it is probably time for a dose or two of Cimicifuga. Especially if you have lots of aches and shooting soreness in your muscles and joints and/or a general feeling of being bruised all over and not wanting to be touched. The hot flushes happen more during the night and early morning and although you might feel chilly you want to wrap up warm and get some fresh air. Wine, drafts and change of weather make you feel worse.
You feel these hot flushes in the pit of your stomach and the sensation of heat travels up your body in pulsating waves and likely results with a headache and severe palpitations. Your face alternates between flushed and pale, again like a wave of blood ebbing and flowing throughout your body. If you have a husband and/or children you might have an aversion to them or dwell on past events and old grievances. Keeping your head elevated and cold applications will help.
These hot flushes ascend up the body like a rush of blood to the head. The heat flushes through the body culminating with a pressure or burning sensation on the top of your head but for some reason your feet will feel cold. You may feel like there is a lump or a feeling of constriction in your throat. Speaking of constriction, this is something you cannot stand in this state, even your clothes will annoy. You might feel jealous or suspicious and prone to emotional outbursts.
Like the other remedies we have already covered, the sensation of heat rises but it will feel like someone has poured hot water over you. Despite this feeling you will feel cold even if you are in a warm room. The sweating is profuse and will come with a feeling of anxiety and may even wake you up if you are sleeping. You will feel irritated, exhausted and emotionally numb. You crave solitude, even your family will irritate you. Not a fun state to be in.
This is a great little remedy for general aggravation linked to the menopause. When you are feeling impatient, everything must be done now, or irritable and angry then it is a good time for Sul-Ac. The hot flushes are severe and leave you trembling and drenched in sweat which has a sour odour to it. They leave you feeling weak. This remedy craves alcohol too, but who doesn’t fancy a glass of wine at the end of the day?
So again this remedy comes with flushes of heat and you will want to throw open all the windows even in the middle of winter. The flushes are worse at night and come with profuse sweat especially on the hands, feet, underarms, nape of the neck and the back of your head with a sulphur like odour. HOT, HOT feet at night which you fling out from under the covers for relief. You will wake frequently during the nights and feel better laying on your right side.
When it comes to taking or prescribing the remedies you are best to use a 6c or 30c. Take your indicated remedy at the first sign of the hot flush, then a further three to four doses every 15 minutes or until symptoms improve. While these remedies will help with the intensity and length of the hot flushes their efficacy can be improved by constitutional remedies but you will need to see a qualified practitioner for that though.
