Tissue salts, also known as cell salts or biochemic salts, are an important part of homeopathy. They were first developed in the late 19th century by Dr Wilhelm Schuessler. The idea behind them is simple. Our bodies rely on a balance of twelve essential mineral salts at the cellular level. When this balance is disturbed through stress, illness, poor diet, or age, the body can show subtle signs such as brittle nails, weak bones, slow-healing skin, fatigue, or digestive issues.

Tissue salts provide gentle support to help restore the natural balance and function of the body. They are prepared in very low potency and often taken as small, fast-dissolving tablets. This makes them safe and easy to use at home. From a homeopathic perspective, tissue salts work quietly and effectively to support the body’s natural ability to heal and maintain health.
Among the twelve tissue salts, the three Calc salts, Calc Fluor, Calc Phos, and Calc Sulph, are particularly important. Each has a distinct role in supporting the body’s structure, growth, and healing processes.
Calc Fluor is often called the elasticity salt. It is used to support tissues that need flexibility and resilience such as skin, ligaments, tendons, blood vessels, and the outer layers of bones and teeth.
Typical uses include brittle teeth, weak enamel, stiff joints, varicose veins, cracked or thickened skin, and loss of elasticity in tissues such as stretch marks.
From a homeopathic perspective, Calc Fluor helps the body regain natural strength and flexibility. It supports tissues that have become rigid or fragile and encourages them to recover their healthy elasticity.
Calc Phos is often called the growth and repair salt. It is particularly helpful for bones, teeth, and connective tissue and supports the body during periods of growth or recovery.
Typical uses include growing pains in children, recovery after illness, surgery or fractures, weak teeth and bones, and slow tissue repair.
In homeopathy, Calc Phos works at the cellular level to provide the building blocks the body needs to restore and strengthen itself. It helps tissues recover naturally and promotes overall vitality.
Calc Sulph is known as the detox and repair salt. It supports the body’s natural cleansing processes, especially when tissues or skin need repair.
It can be useful for skin eruptions, acne, boils, ulcers, slow-healing wounds, pus formation, and chronic discharges.
Homeopathically, Calc Sulph encourages the body to clear impurities and regenerate tissues. It helps the body heal from the inside out and supports natural recovery processes.
Each Calc salt has a different role, but they can also complement each other.
Calc Fluor is best when tissues are rigid or weak and need to regain strength and elasticity. Calc Phos is used when tissues need rebuilding, for growth or recovery. Calc Sulph is most suitable when the body needs to cleanse and repair, especially for skin and slowly healing tissue.
Sometimes it may be appropriate to use the salts together or in rotation to support multiple processes at the same time. Observing the body carefully and understanding its needs is the key to choosing the right salt.
Tissue salts are gentle, safe, and suitable for all ages. They provide subtle support for cell and tissue health, assist with mild conditions or slow-healing issues, and can be part of a long-term maintenance plan.
From a homeopathic perspective, they are valuable allies. The Calc salts, in particular, help restore structure, support growth, and encourage natural healing. When used thoughtfully, they can help the body regain balance, strength, and vitality in a natural and harmonious way.
